Service Description

The training course examines Indigenous Australian’s experiences of past child welfare, present child protection and OOHC in three contexts: the political milieu, personal impacts and the trauma aftermath. The exploration of these themes provides a platform for understanding the cumulative effects of state intervention and the contemporary implications for professionals who work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and communities. The workshop covers interpersonal trauma, intergenerational and collective trauma, including the manifestation of trauma, the neurological, physiological and psychological impacts of trauma. Issues will be examined in a transparent way to assist workers to gain greater insight into the strengths and resilience of First Nations peoples, the importance of culturally responsive practice along with the complexities of issues facing Indigenous Australians.
